Networking activities 2009

  • Global Immunisation Meeting
    New York, USA, 17-19 February 2009

    NESI was invited to attend The Fourth Global Immunisation Meeting, organised by WHO and UNICEF. The objectives of the meeting included: (1) to update on progress of the Global Immunization Vision and Strategy and the global immunisation and mortality reduction goals in the overall framework of the Millennium Development Goals; (2) to share policy decisions and recommendations from the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) and other technical/advisory bodies; and (3) to provide WHO and UNICEF global and regional staff, as well as immunisation partner representatives, with technical updates focusing on the programmatic issues related to the global immunisation efforts, including reaching the un-reached.

  • Global New and Under-utilised vaccines implementation meeting
    Montreux, Switzerland, 16-18 June 2009

    NESI was invited to attend The Global New and Under-utilised vaccines implementation meeting, organised by WHO. The objectives of the meeting included to review and discuss key issues in new and underutilised vaccine introduction among immunisation partners: (1) Programmatic achievements including progress with implementation of Hib, pneumococcal, rotavirus and other vaccines, and prioritising for the next 12 months; (2) Integrated approaches to pneumonia and diarrhoea prevention, control and management; (3) Understanding the decision-making process for new vaccines introduction (e.g. cost-effectiveness analysis, advocacy with national advisory committees, strengthening of NRA); (4) Supporting countries in strengthening the introduction processes (review of cold chain and logistics, training); (5) Crisis and pre-emptive communication in response to AEFI, anti-vaccination information and rumours.
