Introduction of new vaccines into the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) in Southern Africa; public health, educational and economical aspects

General objectives

  • Become acquainted with health economics of immunisation.
  • Review of public health aspects of the new and underused vaccines and related vaccine preventable diseases.
  • Reinforce team building of national immunisation experts from the 'medical schools' (nurses, doctors, public health workers, and other related professionals) and from the EPI programme.

Specific objectives

  • Discuss financing options and financial sustainability of immunisation programmes (EPI) within and outside the GAVI context.
  • Update on scientific aspects of current and future childhood vaccines and related diseases.
  • Review of draft pre-service curricula and training documents for nurses/medical students.
