Development of Vaccinology Modules

Standard training materials for vaccinology courses are currently being developed. These training materials will facilitate the learning process during vaccinology courses. In addition it will enable participants of these courses to use the modules in their lectures at health training institutions or to organise national in-service vaccinology courses.

In November 2012, a workshop was organised on the finalisation of the Vaccinology Training Materials and Handouts, in Johannesburg, South Africa. The workshop was organised by NESI/UA and SAVIC, in collaboration with WHO/AFRO. The workshop was a follow-up of the 2009 and 2010 workshops, which were organised to develop generic training materials and handouts for the vaccinology courses. The workshop was attended by 10 participants from WHO/AFRO, Ghana Ministry of Health and academia; University of Limpopo (Medunsa/SAVIC), University of Antwerp (NESI) and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, School of Medical Sciences, Ghana.

The reference format of the modules was revised, and it was decided at the workshop that the focus of the modules will be on PowerPoint presentations with explanatory notes.
