National EPI prototype curriculum induction workshop

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and NESI/University of Antwerp are closely collaborating to improve the pre-service training in immunisation at nursing and midwifery training institutions in Kenya. With its network of 31 colleges across the country, KMTC is one of the leading health training institutions in Kenya, and is also the driving force advocating for updating EPI curricula at all pre-service nursing and midwifery training institutions in the country.

A new operational research collaboration was initiated between the Faculty of Nursing of the University of Padjadjaran (UNPAD) and NESI during 2015. The study is entitled 'Evaluation of the curriculum on immunisation at nursing and midwifery schools in West Java Province, Indonesia'.

Technical competencies of nurse lecturers on the Expanded Programme on Immunization in Kenya Medical Training College

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), in collaboration with NESI/University of Antwerp, initiated a field based study to assess the "technical competencies of nurse lecturers on the Expanded Programme on Immunization in Kenya Medical Training College". With its network of 31 colleges across the country, KMTC is one of the leading health training institutions training up to 90% of health workforce in Kenya. This study is a follow-up of the evaluations carried out in Kenya in 2011, accessing the status of EPI training at pre-service health training institutions.

Meeting organized by SOMIPEV for the harmonization of the vaccination module between the faculties of medicine

On June 13, 2015 representatives the faculties of medicine of Marrakech, Casablanca, Rabat, Ouida, Tanger and Fès met together with MOH and NESI in Casablanca. The meeting was organized by SOMIPEV to harmonize the vaccination module between all faculties of medicine in Morocco. Training materials developed by SOMIPEV and the 'Société Marocaine de Pédiatrie', with support of NESI, were presented and will be distributed to all trainers within the faculties of medicine in Morocco.

A regional workshop to revise the EPI prototype curricula for medical and nursing/midwifery schools in the African Region was organized by WHO/AFRO in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Ivory Coast, GAVI Alliance, UNICEF, MCHIP/USAID, AMP and NESI/UA, in Grand-Bassam, Ivory Coast, from 13 to 17 May 2013.

Strengthening teaching and learning of current immunisation practices within pre-service curricula of health professionals in South Africa

The national workshop on "Strengthening teaching and learning of current immunisation practices within pre-service curricula of health professionals in South Africa" was organised by the South African Vaccination and Immunisation Centre (SAVIC)/University of Limpopo and NESI/University of Antwerp, and was hosted in collaboration with the South African National Department of Health and WHO/AFRO, on 28-29 November 2012 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Evaluation of Pre-Service Training in the African Region

Training needs assessments conducted in various countries of the WHO African Region during the last decade pointed out several challenges in pre- and in-service training of immunisation theory and practice by medical and nursing schools.
