Inter-country EPI Mid-Level Management course for Anglophone countries in the African Region

The Inter-country Anglophone Mid-Level Management course was held in Pretoria, South Africa, between 10 and 21 October 2016. The course was organised by WHO/AFRO, with support from the South African Department of Health, UNICEF and NESI.

The MLM course was attended by 34 participants from 15 Anglophone African countries. Participants included EPI managers from national, provincial and district level, as well as EPI focal points from WHO and UNICEF. The course was facilitated by experts from WHO, UNICEF, JSI/MCSP and NESI.

Mid-level Management course on the Expanded Programme on Immunisation for Lusophone Countries in the WHO/AFRO Region

The Lusophone MLM Course was held in Maputo, Republic of Mozambique, between 17 and 28 November 2014. The course was organised by WHO/AFRO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Mozambique, UNICEF, Gavi and NESI. The main objective of the MLM course was to strengthen the capacity of EPI managers and to equip academics from medical and nursing schools with new updates in the immunization field. The total number of participants was 27 from the 5 Lusophone countries of the WHO/AFRO region.

EPI Mid-level Management (MLM) inter-country course for francophone countries

Continuous capacity building of EPI managers is key in achieving the goals of the immunisation programme and implementation of EPI disease control, elimination and eradication services in line with current global and regional immunisation policies and strategies, e.g. AFRO Regional Strategy for 2009-2013, GIVS (2005-2015) and Decade of Vaccines (2011-2020).

National Mid-Level Management Training Course

The Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation through the Division of Vaccines and Immunisation, in collaboration with WHO, Moi University and other partners organised a national Mid-Level Management training course from 11 to 20 August 2011, in Mombasa, Kenya. NESI gave technical assistance and supported the in-country MLM training, in the framework of national capacity building on immunisation.

Regional EPI Mid-Level Management (MLM) Course for Anglophone countries

The MLM course for Anglophone countries was organised by WHO AFRO in collaboration/partnership with the Ministry of Health of Kenya, UNICEF, USAID, AMP and NESI. A total of 62 participants and facilitators attended the course. The participants were from health training institutions and public health EPI programmes out of the following countries: Ethiopia, Eritrea, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
