Strengthening Capacity on New Vaccine Introduction in the Middle East: varicella vaccination

On 27 January 2017, the launch of a collaborative project "Capacity building activities on vaccines and immunisation to strengthen the national immunisation programmes: strengthening capacity on introduction of new vaccines in the Middle East" between the University of Jordan, NESI/University of Antwerp and the Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET) took place in Amman, Jordan. The aim of the project is to strengthen decision-makers and NITAGs in the introduction of new vaccines in the Middle East, using the varicella vaccine as a case study.

The role of the NITAGs in strengthening routine immunisation and new vaccine introduction: Varicella vaccine as a case study

On 3-4 May 2017, the Workshop on "The role of the NITAGs in strengthening routine immunisation and new vaccine introduction: Varicella vaccine as a case study” was organised in Amman, Jordan, by the University of Jordan, the Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET), and NESI/University of Antwerp. Additional scientific support was received from the Ministry of Oman.

Strengthening HPV vaccination and adolescent health programmes in Africa

The symposium “Strengthening HPV vaccination and adolescent health programmes in Africa” was organised by SAVIC/SMU, SA-MRC and NESI/University of Antwerp from 21 to 22 November 2016 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

HPV Workshop: "Implementing HPV vaccination in Africa: opportunities for strengthening adolescent health"

The workshop was organised by SAVIC/Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, South African Medical Research Council, NESI/University of Antwerp, University of Nairobi and Kenya Paediatric Association in Nairobi, Kenya from 22-24 March 2016.

As HPV vaccination can be regarded as an entry point for strengthening overall adolescent health services, the purpose of the workshop was to:

(a)    Promote successful and effective introduction of HPV vaccination and other adolescent health interventions in the eastern and southern African region;

The workshop on "Implementing HPV vaccination in Africa: opportunities for strengthening adolescent health" was organised by SAVIC/Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, South African Medical Research Council and NESI/University of Antwerp in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 5 to 7 October 2015. The workshop was officially opened by the Vice-Chancellor of Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University.

HPV Symposium and Stakeholders meeting: "Implementing HPV vaccination in Africa: opportunities for strengthening adolescent health."

The South African Vaccination and Immunisation Centre (SAVIC)/Sefako Makgatho University, the South African Medical Research Council (SA-MRC) and the Network for Education and Support in Immunisation (NESI)/University of Antwerp, organised a Symposium on "Implementing HPV vaccination in Africa: opportunities for strengthening adolescent health" in Pretoria, South Africa, on 24 March 2015.

Building Vaccinology Expertise in South East Asia

More than 200 participants from ten countries attended the Symposium: Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

Profile of participants: academia, NITAG members, EPI managers and other MoH staff, members of Paediatric, Obstetrics/Gynaecology and Community Health Associations, medical students.

Introduction of New Vaccines

NESI co-organises with its local partners interactive workshops, with the purpose to create a forum for discussion and exchange of experiences related to immunisation practices and new initiatives. It is the aim to bring together EPI managers and other stakeholders from different countries to share their respective experiences.

Introduction of New Vaccines-Experience Exchange Meeting

The Experience Exchange Meeting on the introduction of new vaccines took place in Pretoria, South Africa, from 28 to 30 July 2010, and was organised by SAVIC/University of Limpopo Medunsa Campus in collaboration with the University of Pretoria and the Network for Education and Support in Immunisation (NESI)/University of Antwerpen. This meeting was convened at a time when countries are augmenting their strategies to reach UN Millennium Development Goals.
