NESI is currently supported by an educational grant from GlaxoSmithKline, an educational grant from MSD, and by funds from the University of Antwerp, which also provides infrastructure, ICT, administrative, and legal support. Previously NESI was supported by funds from the Flemish University Council-Bureau University Development Cooperation (VLIR-UOS) and from other governmental support.
Following the visit of the former Flemish Minister for Innovation, Public Investment, Media and Poverty Reduction, Mrs Ingrid Lieten, to South Africa, NESI received a grant (2014-2016) from the Flemish Government.
NESI maintains independent control over expenditure, publications, teaching materials and/or print materials that may result from this support.

Additional funding, participation or support from other national or international agencies, partners or industry is being explored.
